How long does it take for Hydrochloric Acid to burn your skin?
I was in chemistry and had to put HCL in a small test tube. I was squirting it in, then I realized it was dripping (not from the top). It was coming from where the lid twists on (then there is a squirter). So, I got a little on my thumb. I washed it off with water and soap (provided for us) and it didn't do anything (although I know it is corrosive).
So, could anything happen still? Should I be worried about my thumb? Thank you 
Your thumb will turn black and fall off tomorrow unless...
Just kidding. One of the nice things about the strong acids is their effect is immediate. They pretty much burn on contact and that's it. You were most certainly using dilute HCl which won't damage your skin. None of the acids will when diluted, but it's still a good idea to wear gloves or wash off any which does get on your skin.
