Why is the front end of my car making a loud, vibrating, railroad train kind of noise?
I have a pontiac G5 coup that has a slight pull to the left. barely noticable. but as soon as i pull out onto the road, my tires make a loud vibration type sound when they rotate. It sounds like train wheels on a track. I'm thinking it needs an alignment? i can feel the vibration on the gas pedal, on the Steering Wheel, on the shifter, on the floor. it starts at around 40 mph and is louder at higher speeds. It overpowers my radio. I can't think what else it would be except an allignment issue of some kind. Any Ideas?
it sounds like you have bad tires. either that or you have a bad wheel bearing. If the noise comes and goes as your swerve left and right, it's probably a wheel bearing. You see, as you steer back and forth, you are loading and unloading the suspension. When the load is transferred to the side that has a bad wheel bearing, the noise will get louder. As you steer to the opposite side, you are taking the load off the side that has the bad wheel bearing and the noise gets less noticeable.
